SEPTA Avoids Major Fare Increase with
$153M Cash Infusion
Governor Josh Shapiro redirected $153 million in federal highway funds to SEPTA, averting a major fare hike set for January 1 and postponing service cuts. The funds provide temporary relief through June 2024, but long-term funding for the struggling transit agency remains unresolved amid political gridlock.
